History
Founded by Norman N. Hoffman M.D. in 1957, the originally solo practice specializes in diseases of the colon, rectum and anus. The practice later expanded to include other doctors. The practice started in a Beverly Hills office located at 9400 Brighton Way, and has remained at this location since. The practice was later incorporated, becoming Norman N. Hoffman M.D., Inc. In 2004 the center was restructured and named Los Angeles Colon and Rectal Surgical Associates (LACRSA).
In 1987, Norman Hoffman was joined by his son, Gary H. Hoffman. Having completed medical school at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, he began and completed his surgical training and education at LSU Charity Hospital of New Orleans.
A third physician, Eiman Firoozmand, joined the Hoffmans in July of 2002. Firoozmand attended medical school at the USC Keck School of Medicine, and trained surgically at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, California. He completed his colon and rectal training at . Firoozmand was appointed head of the Division of Colorectal Surgery at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in 2007, a post he held for two years.
In 2005, the group was joined by Liza Capiendo who had attended USC Keck School of Medicine, followed by her surgical residency at Martin Luther King Hospital. When she joined Los Angeles Colon and Rectal Surgical Associates, she became one of the early female colorectal surgeons in Los Angeles.
By 2009 another surgeon, Stephen Yoo, joined the group. Doctor Yoo received his medical degree from the Loma Linda University School of Medicine in 2003. He completed his General Surgery residency at Providence Hospital in Michigan in 2008.
Allen Kamrava also joined the team in 2012. Originally from Encino, Kamrava attended UCLA and completed his undergraduate training with a B.S. in Neuroscience. Kamrava subsequently completed his Colon and Rectal Surgical Fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
Activities
Hoffman and Firoozmand were early adopters of the Procedure for Prolapse and Hemorrhoids (PPH) which has allowed patients to experience less postoperative discomfort and return to regular activities much earlier than patients undergoing a traditional, excisional hemorrhoidectomy.
Gary Hoffman adopted the use of laparoscopic surgery, minimally invasive colon surgery, in the treatment of diseases of the colon and rectum.
The doctors are involved in the Cedars Sinai Colorectal Surgical Fellowship. The fellowship is dedicated to teaching and training surgeons who are interested in progressing beyond a general surgical training to becoming experts in the field of colon and rectal surgery.
