Wilson Grove, California

Wilson Grove is located in Sonoma County, California, United States. It contains rock formations and a grove of redwood trees. Wilson Grove is located near , west of Windsor, California; since the 1920s, Wilson Grove has been used for camps and outings.
By 1922, mollusc fossils had been discovered and analyzed in Wilson Grove, which up to the 1970s was considered as part of the Merced Formation. Scientific studies of the rock formations at Wilson Grove began by 1952, and eventually by 1988 provided evidence that around 4 million years ago, there was a shallow sea covering Sonoma County, which was named as the Wilson Grove Sea, distinct from the Merced Sea covering San Francisco during that time. In 1983, the rock formations at Wilson Grove were named as the Wilson Grove Formations, which extends to the wider Sonoma County and enters a part of Marin County, California.<ref name=Powell/>
