University of Pangasinan Supreme Student Council
The University of Pangasinan Supreme Student Council (UPang SSC) is the highest student governing body of the University of Pangasinan in Dagupan City, Philippines. It serves as the official representative organization of the student body to the university administration and is tasked with safeguarding student rights and welfare.
History
The council was established in its current form in 2009 to unify various campus organizations into a single representative body. Since its founding, it has served as a platform for leadership development and campus-based policymaking within the PHINMA Education Network.
Governance
The UPang SSC follows a parliamentary structure consisting of an executive branch and a legislative body:
- Executive Branch: Led by the president and vice president, who oversee the implementation of student programs.
- Legislative Body: Composed of 32 elected representatives, with one representative from each academic department of the university.
The council maintains several standing committees, including those for academics, student welfare, finance, and external affairs.
Elections
Student officers are elected annually through the Flames General Elections. The electoral process is supervised by the Appointments, Performance Evaluation and Electoral Commission (APEC), an independent body responsible for ensuring the integrity of student elections and appointments.
Powers and Functions
As the primary student government, the SSC performs the following functions:
- Acts as the official liaison between the students and the university administration.
- Serves as a consultative body for campus policies affecting the studentry.
- Organizes university-wide cultural, social, and academic programs.
- Advocates for student rights and welfare initiatives.
Meeting Place
The SSC maintains its headquarters at the Atrium Building of the PHINMA University of Pangasinan in Dagupan City. This facility serves as the hub for consultations, organizational meetings, and student services.
