The Regolith Project
The Regolith Project is a program for designing and building Tele-robotic Vehicles and systems for doing Lunar exploration, excavation, mining, Construction, and ore processing of the regolith on the moon's surface and then transporting the gathered minerals into High Earth Orbit or to the earths surface for further Processing.
The Regolith Project has been a project of Eugene Roy Sherrill since the early 1990s. Roy Has spent many years working in Prototype Electronic Manufacturing, electromechanical assembly, tele-robotics and Computer Manufacturing and design. due to disabilities he has been limited to using a power wheelchair or electric scooter to get around and his experiences and studies in their mechanics plus his other working knowledge have lead to developments in the program.
There are rare elements. minerals, and compounds available on the moons surface that are unavailable through normal means of gathering or rarity on the earths surface. This is due to many factors. Reactions with the earths atmosphere, erosion, meteors burning up in the atmosphere. lack of deposits because they did not exist on earth during its formation or were destroyed during its formation. Heavy elements that sink through the surface like lead through water. or are in so small amounts that they are unrecoverable bye current means. or are plentiful on the moons surface because of meteoric impacts with the moon. chemical compounds from comets, asteroids, meteoroids and other cosmic debris.
the basic synopsis for the project is to build vehicles and structures on earth to be transported to the moon. These can be operated and assembled teleroboticly from control stations on the earth and driven around the moon to explore, gather, test, process, store, and ship the materials found in the lunar regolith and crust back to earth. materials from the moon can be loaded into capsules manufactured on the moon from elements of its regolith and shot into earth orbit with a rail-gun system placed on the moon. These can then be gathered in orbit for processing or dropped into the atmosphere where they can be parachuted to the surface for processing.
chemical and spectroscopic surveys and studies of the lunar surface have shown huge deposits of elements like tungsten titanium nickel silica oxide, helium-3 for fusion plants ,
