Patrick J. Lavelle

Patrick J. Lavelle (born February 21, 1939) is a Canadian business executive, political advisor, and founder of management and corporate governance consulting firm Patrick J. Lavelle & Associates.
As of 2018, he serves as a corporate board member of private equity firm Catalyst Capital, based in Toronto, and Alberta Capital, based in Calgary.
Early life and education
Patrick J. Lavelle was born and raised in a suburb of Toronto, New Toronto, along the shore of Lake Ontario. He suffered from Perthes disease through grade school. He graduated from St. Michael’s College School in 1958.
Career
Lavelle began his career as a reporter and news editor for the Kingston Whig-Standard and United Press International in Canada. He entered politics in 1963 as Director of Communications for the Liberal Party of Canada. He later became executive assistant to Allan MacEachen, the federal Minister of Labour and Minister of National Health and Welfare of Ottawa. After leaving the government in Ottawa, Lavelle joined Consumers Glass Company of Canada, serving as Western and later National Sales Manager.
Lavelle became the President of Automotive Parts Manufacturers' Association of Canada in 1972, serving for 11 years until 1983. In 1981, Lavelle was appointed by conservative Premier William C. Davis of Ontario to become the Agent General of Ontario to Paris, France. He became a Deputy Minister for the Government of Ontario in 1986, heading the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Technology.
Patrick served as Vice President of Corporate Development of Magna International, Canada’s largest automotive parts manufacturer. After leaving Magna International, Lavelle left to start Patrick J. Lavelle & Associates in 1990.

Personal life
P. Lavelle is married to Linda D. Lavelle and they reside in Toronto, Ontario. They have two children, Mark Lavelle and Susan Ziegler.
