One (Battle for Dream Island character)

One is a character created by Michael and Cary Huang from the channel jacknjellify on YouTube. She was created for a school project, but eventually returned in the duo’s web series, Battle for Dream Island. She serves as a major character in most videos since the introduction in 2020.

X Finds Out His Value

One first appeared in a 2008 jacknjellify video in “X Finds Out His Value". In this video, a location named the "Equation Playground" is filled with anthropomorphic algebraic symbols (mostly numbers) called algebraliens. While the other numbers play, Four finds his friend X upset because X doesn’t know his numerical value. One appeared in one frame. Throughout the video, they solve an equation on a balance beam to find what value X equals, which ends up being revealed as 7. This short animation was created for a school project.

Battle for Dream Island Series

Battle for Dream Island is an animated web series created in 2010 with 5 seasons. It involves anthropomorphic objects (sometimes non-objects such as stickmen and profile pictures) fighting for a prize differing between each season. Before One appeared, the show had a 2nd season which was put on hiatus and an unfinished 3rd season. In the 4th season (Battle for B.F.B, acronymized as BFB), One makes her debut in the series. She is a recommended character in the BFB continuation. In TPOT, she is still antagonizing at times but plays an antihero role against Four and Two (the main co host and host of TPOT). She appeared fully for the first time in TPOT 12.

Reception

One received most of her fame from the already popular BFDI series when she was added. She is loved for his strange appearance and behavior, which people find humor in. Him being the host also boosted his popularity greatly. She is a recommended character in the BFB continuation. Her popularity continues in TPOT where she makes many appearances, and has gained more of an important role.

Impact

One from jacknjellify became so popular and loved that he is one of the first things you can see when you 'google' the word “One”. She impacted Battle for Dream Island a lot, alongside algebraliens being prominent characters in the show including Four and Two. The first nationwide episode of Battle for Dream Island, titled “Alone”, was about the backstory of the algebraliens, in which One raised in popularity due to her role.
