Michael Karp
Michael Steven Karp (born June 3, 1959) is an American Visual Effects artist, who is considered a veteran in the field.
Career
Karp has worked in several departments of Visual Effects, Cinematography and Camera works, being the winner of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers’ (ASCAP) awards for 11 years. He has won numerous accolades for his work on several Marvel (X-men, Spiderman, Avengers 2, Ant Man,etc) and DC(Catwoman) movies and also for other leading franchises such as Harry Potter, Fast and Furious and Mission Impossible.
He has been appreciated several times by leading production houses like Disney, Fox and Warner Bros for his contributions. Many young artists have been left heavily inspired by his achievements and visual styles.
Karp has has been associated with Hollywood for over 33 years now. He has worked with several companies including ILM, Double Negative, Sony Imageworks, and Disney Feature Animation/The Secret Lab. Michael Karp is considered a "guru" of 3D Equalizer.
Education
Karp studied Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honors Film, Scholarship at the Art Center College of Design, Pasadena in 1983. He was introduced to the world of VFX when he joined as a final year student intern at Coast Effects. In one of the interviews, Karp said. “I thought Coast Effects was where all the nerds work. But once I started my internship, I realised that I was one of those nerds and was quite at home there." Comparing his internship experience with the current technology, he spoke about how computers have advanced the field. He said, "The visual effects business has experienced a dramatic shift from analog to digital and we are in the digital and computer-generated imagery (CGI) period. Another advancement is in the use of highly energy-efficient and light-weight lighting units."

Karp has worked on many movies such as Terminator 5, Fast and Furious 7, Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Kingsman: The Secret Service, Avengers 2, Spiderman, Spectre, and Wolverine.
He is known for contributions as a Tracking Supervisor in movies like Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows: Part 2, X-Men First Class, Pirates of the Caribbean 4, Final Destination 5, Alice in Wonderland, Garfield, andJourney to the Center of the Earth.
He has worked as a Motion Control Operator in films like Terminator 3D, Titanic, and Apollo 13.
