Mealshare.org
MealShare.org is one of many social network services used to facilitate social dining. It is different from mealshare.pro, a service for dieting.
Shareable.net notes: "This free website makes it easy for existing groups of friends to plan a shared meal. Simply log-in, input menu, place, and time details, and hit sumbit. After you supply the basic information, each friend in your MealShare circle will get an email letting them know all the details. Any open spots for your meal are available on a first-come, first-serve basis to the friends in your circle."
According to a Twitter post by the company, the domain mealshare.org averaged 10,000 new unique members in the month of January 2011.
According to an undated presentation on the company website, the site has grown at an annualized rate of more than 25,000%.
There are three services offered through MealShare.org. The first is a communal dinner, available to a defined subset of members of a user's meal network. The second is a private dinner party, available to anyone designated by the host. The third is a potluck, available to both a user's meal network as well as other individuals chosen by the host.
According to a blog post on Reddit, as of 2012, the site had networks operating in more than 36 countries throughout the world.
History
According to public records, MealShare.org was founded in 2009 as a subsidiary of Shared Meals, LLC.
After initial success, the site expanded to create a portal for organizing potluck events and private engagements.
