Matthias Boaab

Matthias Bauab or Boaab (April 1 1802 - June 21 1871) was a Dutch naval architect known for designing anchors, and more remembered, one of the last cruisers for the Kingdom of Two Sicilies, the Santa Annunziata.
A descendant, on his mother's side, of world renowned Dutch lens-grinder and inventor, Anton Van Leeuwenhoek, Matthias was born to a bourgeois family in the town of Rotterdam. A brilliant student as a child, he became disinterested with academics as a teenager. After a failed attempt to become a priest, at the insistence of his parents, Matthias continued his studies at the university of Amsterdam specializing in naval architecture. After graduation, he could finally achieve what he considered his true calling: designing the perfect anchor. His many designs are characterized by the creation of anchors of all shapes and sizes, always perfect in their geometry and simetry. He rose to prominence as the foremost anchor designer of his era and clients, from pirates to kings, cam from all of Europe to have a custom Boabb anchor.
In 1829, he married Victoria D'Ucille, sister of famous Corsican author, Clement D'Ucille (known for writing "La Maîtresse du Pharaon"). Boaab lost interest for anchors quickly after thein union and never designed an anchor afterwards. He then starting designing boats, having lost the passion for anchor that animated as a young architect. While the Santa Annunziata is known, Boabb never reached the level of excellence he had demonstrated in his youth, as an anchor wunderkind.
The 2 time world champion offshore speedboat racing team, Team Boaab, commonly known as Team Boobs, is named in his honor. The boats, Matthias I and Matthias II are owned by uber billionnaires, Nicola Normandino and Franky D', of clothing apparel giant Boabb design. Their crest is a famous Boabb anchor design, considered by many to be his greatest.
