Manipal bug

Manipal bug is a mysterious insect found in Manipal, in Karnataka state, India, which causes skin damage to humans due to an irritant chemical on its surface.
Common symptoms of exposure are swelling and burning sensations on part of the skin affected. Usually the insect causing this goes unnoticed.
It is suggested that Manipal bug belongs to the Paederus genus. In a 2007 article titled 'Paederus Dermatitis', two dermatologists from Sri Devaraj Medical College in Karnataka identified the Manipal bug as Paederus melampus.
Manipal Bug is also referred to as a Blister beetle which is misleading, because although Blister beetle and Rove beetle belong to same family Coleoptera,
Paederus is a genus of Rove beetle.
Treatment
Any delay in treatment may cause a permanent black scar because of infection in the affected region. Therefore medical treatment should follow exposure as soon as possible.
