Imani Selemani Nsamila

Imani Selemani Nsamila also known by the mononym Nsamila, is a Tanzanian photographer based in Dar es salaam. His work focuses on the environment, photojournalism, political and documentary photography.
Early life
Nsamila was born on 22 July 1991 in Kigoma and raised in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Before discovering his talent for photography, his dream was to make films and record videos.
His parents took him to attend a filmmaking college but Nsamila didn't complete his studies after being involved in a car accident that broke his arm. He quit his dream because it was so hard for him to balance his camera while shooting videos.
After fully recovered from the accident In 2014, he volunteered for the Climate Change Caravan by the Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) as a photographer, and they let him travel across regions in Tanzania working with the youth of the Climate Change Caravan. He fell in love with photography and nothing was ever the same.
Career
In the 2015 Tanzanian general election, Nsamila worked as official photographer to former President Dr. John Pombe Magufuli, and Hon. January Makamba also observed part of the 2017 Liberian general election as a photographer.
Most of his images in the Tanzania political arena has been used as branding materials on billboards, social media, and as official images of high-ranking officials during the campaigns.
His photographic work has captured various humanitarian cases in most parts of Tanzania. He has also self-funded his tour to document cities in parts of Europe including Germany, Netherlands, France, Belgium, Czech Republic, and Italy.
On the 26th of December 2019, Nsamila worked as the official photographer for Mbwana Samatta during a football match in Genk, Belgium. Went to Germany and did an interview with DW about his work as a photographer.
Nsamila trains and mentors Upcoming female Photographers in Tanzania through his nonprofit FPP program.
Personal life
He is an avid fan of Bongo Flava and supports the Premier League club Arsenal F.C. and Simba S.C. at home.
