Highlands Pier
The Highlands Pier is a pier located within the borough of Highlands, New Jersey in the United States. It was designed by businessman John J. Flemm and built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1948. The pier extends into the Shrewsbury River, south of the Navesink Twin Lights, in Monmouth County, New Jersey.
History
In 1948, John J. Flemm, the president of Flemm Lead Company, applied to the New York Corps of Army Engineers for the construction of an pile-and-timber pier, with a wide T-shaped extension at the end, extending a total of into the Shrewsbury River, south of Route 36 in Highlands. After receiving approval, Flemm funded the construction of the pier, completed by the New York Corps of Army Engineers that same year.
Highlands Pier currently serves as a pleasure pier for borough residents and tourists.
