Garden Court Chambers

Garden Court Chambers is a barristers' chambers based in Lincoln's Inn Fields, Holborn, in London. It was set up in the 1970's, to reflect the need for the disadvantaged to find committed and specialist legal representation. It specialises in civil liberties and social welfare cases, especially in criminal defence, immigration, housing, child care law and civil litigation such as controversial inquests, claims against the police, discrimination claims and challenges to decisions of public authorities. Some of the principal reported cases in these areas were conducted by members of Garden Court Chambers.
Chambers was previously located in the Temple, London, but since 2005 has operated from two large houses at 57- 58 and 59- 60 Lincoln's Inn Fields. 57- 58 has an interesting staircase designed by Sir John Soane. 59- 60 was designed by Inigo Jones and was at one point the home of British Prime Minister Spencer Perceval.
In addition to the innovations introduced in the cases conducted by Garden Court Chambers, many of the practices that were introduced by Garden Court, such as paying pupils and encouraging common professional development, have been made compulsory by the legal profession.
