DJ Marcus Jr.
Marcus Wilson professionally known as DJ Marcus Jr. (Formally known as DJ LadyKilla) is an African-Australian rapper. He is best know for collaborating with and mentoring The Kid Laroi in his early years in Adelaide. Marcus was born in Liberia and fled to Australia as a refugee with his parents and younger sister at the age of 10.
Early career with The Kid Laroi
In 2015, Marcus formed the duo "Dream$Team" with then 12 year old rapper The Kid Laroi after he reached out to him on Facebook. Marcus became The Kid Laroi's mentor and support, often having him stay at his house. The Kid Laroi's mother, Sloane Howard, created "Mama Capone Management" to promote the duo and her son's career. OTC Hip Hop listed Dream$Team and their song "Why" as an underground hit in 2017.
DJ Marcus Jr. has been vocal about his disappointment of how The Kid Laroi ended their relationship when he moved to Sydney and now doesn't give his mentorship credit to his rise to fame. Marcus stated that this feels like this is what happened with Dr Dre and Eminem and all he wants is a thank you and for his baby daughter to be considered. In a live interview and performance on ABC Radio Adelaide with veteran radio presenter Peter Goers, he discussed his upbringing and rapped "Turn Up". The premise of the song is about being real with your family and friends and how loyalty is everything.
