Death of Dennis M. Clougherty

Dennis Michael Clougherty (31 January 1951 - 12 August 1974) was an American man who was shot five times and killed whist hitchhiking to Torrington, Wyoming, on the night of August 12, 1974, at the age of 23. A passing motorist found Dennis's body in the early morning in a ditch along Union Road, south of First Street in Cedar Falls, Iowa. About twenty minutes after Dennis's body was initially found, some of his personal belongings were located 5 miles south on Viking Road, such as the college students backpack, clothes bag and his white motorcycle helmet. A coroners report indicated that Dennis had been killed by five gunshot wounds to the chest.
No suspects or motives in the case have ever been identified.
