Bimal Banerjee
Bimal Banerjee (born 1939) is an Indian-American abstract artist. Banerjee is best known for his usage of the "fumage" technique, in which he makes impressions onto a surface using the smoke of a candle or kerosene lamp. Banerjee is part of the "Group of Eight", which consisted of a group of Calbutta painters formed to promote modernist art in Calcutta.
Banerjee attended Columbia University, where he graduated with a Doctorate in education. He also attended the New York University, Pratt Institute, Ecole des Beaux-Arts, The Indian College of Art, College of Art, and Atelier 17. Bannerjee has had his work shown in multiple cities, including New York City and Calcutta.
