2025 Khasgi Bazar Fire
The 2025 Khasgi Bazar fire was a major fire incident that occurred on in the residential neighborhood of Khasgi Bazar, Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India. The fire originated in a thread factory reportedly operating illegally in a residential building, resulting in the explosion of multiple LPG cylinders and widespread destruction.
Incident
The fire broke out around 1:30 AM IST at a thread factory situated adjacent to the Kala Gopal Apartment, a multi-flat residential building. The facility stored flammable materials and lacked standard fire safety measures. As the fire spread, at least five LPG cylinders exploded, causing structural damage and injuries to two firefighters who responded to the emergency.
The fire was eventually brought under control after several hours of effort by local firefighting units from the Janakganj Police Station area.
Damages
The incident led to severe property damage, especially in the seven-flat Kala Gopal Apartment:
* Two flats, owned by Dilip Jain Flat no 302 and Lokesh Shah flat no 401, were completely destroyed.
* Residents such as Madhu Motwani flat no 202, Smrita Pandlikar flat no 301 and Rajkumar Jain flat no 102 reported total loss of household items and extensive interior damage.
* Flats belonging to Vivek Poddar flat no 101 and B.D. Gupta flat no 201 sustained both structural and material damage.
Legal and Administrative Response
According to multiple news reports, the factory was allegedly operated by Mr. Nirmal Sukhwani, who is also linked to the construction of the affected residential structure. The facility was operating without valid zoning clearance or a fire safety certificate, raising questions about regulatory negligence.
Residents and civil society groups have since called for:
* Legal prosecution of the factory owner for negligence and endangerment.
* Full compensation and temporary housing for the displaced residents.
* An investigation into how industrial activity was allowed in a strictly residential zone.
