DRAINO in PIPES is a recently proposed descendant and variation of the Web 2.0 paradigm. Built around a rudimentary Ruby Mongrel server it is actually two combinations of technologies working together. DRAINO in PIPES is an acronym meaning:

History:
The idea behind DRAINO in PIPES came early in 2007 while a small research group was attempting to find a more manageable and scalable alternative to AJAX that would accommodate a distributed computing model while being built around common, well understood technologies. From that, it has spawned its own development group
