'Virgilio V. Salentes is the Director of the Economic Research and Information Department of the Securities and Exchange Commission of the Republic of the Philippines. Prior to his appointment as the Director of the Economic Research and Information Department of the Securities and Exchange Commission last February 2005, Virgilio “VER” Salentes served as the Director of the National Economic and Development Authority and Head of the Governance Unit, Portfolio Management Office of the United Nations Development Programme Country Office in Manila.
As the Director of the NEDA Management Staff and Head of the PMO- UNDP, Salentes provided advice to the socio-economic issues, particularly on Fostering Democratic Governance, Official Development Assistance Coordination, Project development and Investment Programming.
He was with the NEDA from 1976 starting as an Economic Researcher of the Presidential Economic Staff of the National Economic Council (now NEDA). "A man of great technical and managerial skills" as he is best remembered by his staff. Ver specializes in privatization and Economic Development and also studied at the Institute of Social Studies in the Hague, Netherlands where he completed his two masteral studies. He also got a study grant at the Harvard University in Boston, Massachusetts.
Born on March 06, 1951 and Hailing from Caibiran, Leyte, Ver was a prominent campus figure as an undergraduate student at the Divine Word College of Tacloban, and graduated magna cum laude, with a degree in Bachelor of Science leading to Economics. He also holds the following educational qualifications: Doctorate in Business Management, Polytechnic University of the Philippines (1997); Master in Business Administration, Ateneo De Manila University (1981).
He is married to Rowenda Leaño Salentes, a native of the north. They have three children: Rowena Abigail, Vernon Ryan & Bodie Jordan.
