Sylvanas Windrunner is a fictional character in the fantasy Warcraft Universe, created by Blizzard Entertainment and voiced by Piera Coppola.
Sylvanas was a dedicated and loyal Ranger General of the High Elven kingdom of Quel'Thalas but was tragically transformed into a Banshee after being killed by the Death Knight Arthas and is now known as the Dark Lady, Queen of the Forsaken.
In-game biography
Sylvanas led the High Elf Ranger Corps in defending the borderlands of Quel'Thalas from the invading Undead Scourge while simultaneously attempting to summon reinforcements from the elf capital city of Silvermoon during the Third War. Though Sylvanas mocked him from the outset, Arthas crushed her initial defense at the Outer Elfgate, driving her further into Quel'Thalas. After destroying a bridge on the only route deeper into elvish territory and taunting Arthas further, Sylvanas moved deeper into Elvish territory to obtain more reinforcements. However, Arthas was able to bypass this problem by using goblin transports to fly over the river, where he obtained the pieces of the Key of the Three Moons, which he used to open the Inner Elfgate after defeating the resistance that stood in the way. Sylvanas then retreated back further to her main base near the elvish capital of Silvermoon. Again, she taunted Arthas and continued to attack him while sending messengers directly to Silvermoon to get reinforcements. Arthas, who had become a Death Knight in service to the Lich King Ner'zhul, stopped the messengers and defeated her small group of resistance before moving on to crush Silvermoon and the High Elf civilization. When her base was leveled and all of her forces slain, Sylvanas stood alone against Arthas. Even when she knew she was beaten, she mocked Arthas by saying "Finish it; I deserve... a clean death." However, Arthas was already enraged by Sylvanas' persistent taunts and her stubborn refusal to surrender. He retorted "After all you've put me through, woman, the last thing I'll give you is the peace of death." Then Sylvanas realized that her doom was sealed and proclaimed "No, you wouldn't dare!" Arthas killed Sylvanas on the spot and using his dark magics granted by the Lich King, prevented her soul from escaping and raised her from the dead as a Banshee. Now a mindless killer in the service of the Lich King, he used her to aid in the destruction of the civilization she once protected. For the remainder of Warcraft III, the Lich King used Sylvanas to help destroy Lordaeron and claim it for the Scourge.
In the aftermath of the Burning Legion's defeat at Mt. Hyjal, Arthas, Kel'Thuzad and Sylvanas began eliminating the last remnants of human resistance in Lordaeron. Sylvanas initially remained as one of the Scourge, a slave to the Lich King's will; but regained her will along with many of her undead comrades as the Lich King weakened during the events of the Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne expansion. The Lich King's energies were escaping from his icy prison; for though Illidan Stormrage's first attempt to destroy the Lich King had failed, the Frozen Throne had been fractured in the devastation. Sylvanas held a burning hatred for Arthas as a result of the part he played in destroying Quel'Thalas and trapping her in undeath as a 'monstrosity', subjecting her to eternal agony.
The Dark Lady ambushed Arthas as he was preparing to go to the aid of his master, the Lich King. She and her Banshee sisters set a trap for the fallen prince outside the ruins of Lordaeron City, but the timely rescue of Kel'Thuzad allowed Arthas to escape and continue his trek to Northrend. She ran off, swearing she would never stop hunting Arthas.
After the unsuccessful assassination attempt, Sylvanas turned her attention back toward lordship over the Plaguelands. She had coordinated attacks against Arthas' forces along with the Dread Lords Balnazzar, Detheroc and Varimathras, but that alliance quickly fell apart after the Death Knight's escape to Northrend: Sylvanas was only interested in pursuing her vengeance against Arthas, not squabbling for power like the Dreadlords. She captured Varimathras and, in exchange for his life, he pledged his allegiance to Sylvanas and assisted her in eliminating the other two nathrezim. Her rule over the Tirisfal Glades cemented, Sylvanas established an undead faction known as the Forsaken and completed the tunnels under Lordaeron City started by Arthas. This realm is now called the Undercity.
Currently the Forsaken's Royal Apothecary Society is engineering a new plague that will wipe out the Scourge, and plans to test it in Northrend which is likely to be a long horde quest chain.
Many more details on Sylvanas were revealed in the next game in the series, World of Warcraft. With the release of The Burning Crusade Expansion Pack, she has become an ally once again with the High Elf race as they've joined the horde, although they've now coined themselves Blood Elves in honor of their destroyed realm, Silvermoon City.
The current avatar being used for Sylvanas Windunner in World of Warcraft is a modified Night Elf model. Sylvanas is in fact a raised High Elf. Many requests have been made to Blizzard to correct this but it is unknown if Blizzard will make the correction .
Abilities and relations Even as an undead, Sylvanas is considered to be the best archer on Azeroth. She claims that she can easily hit a bird in midflight straight in the eye. Though her proficiency in magic is strong, even being capable of performing mind control, she is more inclined to use her bow and arrows in combat. She prefers hit-and-run tactics to all-out assaults. However, as the leader of the Forsaken, she is now very unlikely to risk her own safety by leading an army.
Sylvanas is sister to Alleria Windrunner, hero of Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal; and Vereesa Windrunner, hero of Day of the Dragon. She has also been called "The Dark Rose of the Forsaken".

Once the Ranger-General of Silvermoon, Sylvanas Windrunner was murdered by the death knight Arthas and brought back as a creature of undeath. After regaining her free will she rebelled against the Lich King and the Scourge and became the founder of the Forsaken faction of undead, who are currently allied with the Horde. She has styled herself the Dark Lady, Queen of the Forsaken, an expansion of her original title, "Dark Lady, Banshee Queen of the Forsaken".
As leader of the Forsaken and the Horde on the Eastern Kingdoms, Sylvanas is a military genius. The middle sister of Alleria and Vereesa Windrunner, she was Ranger General of the high elf kingdom of Quel'Thalas. She fought valiantly against Arthas when he invaded Quel'thalas, but during the fall of Silvermoon, Arthas raised her as an undead minion as a form of petty revenge. When the Lich King's hold on his minions weakened, Sylvanas, among other undead, regained her free will, and she led her forces against the dreadlords who had taken hold over Lordaeron, ultimately affirming her sovereignty by killing off two of the nathrazim and bending the third, Varimathras, to her will. She renamed her force of self-aware undead the Forsaken and declared herself their queen.
Under her leadership the Forsaken have managed to not only fend off the Scourge, but also the Scarlet Crusade. She has a certain mastery of leadership, military strategy, and the bow. She is also adept at demon magic — having the ability to drain life, create skeletons, and use mind control. Sylvanas is the best archer on Azeroth — she claimed she could hit a flying bird in the eye. She wields Sunstrider's Longbow — once owned by Dath'Remar Sunstrider, it was passed on to Sylvanas when she became Ranger-General.MoM 175

Alleria Windrunner is the eldest of the Windrunner sisters, all of whom have served Quel'Thalas and the Alliance with distinction. She also had a younger brother. Alleria always wore a necklace given to her by her parents, an exquisite piece containing an emerald, a ruby, and a sapphire.BtDP 199
When the Horde invaded Lordaeron, Anduin Lothar called upon the ancient debt the Sunstriders owed the Arathi bloodline. The ruling council of Quel'Thalas, seeing the Horde as more of an excuse to fulfill that debt than an actual threat, sent a small force of elves to assist the Alliance of Lordaeron. Alleria was one of the few in Quel'Thalas who believed that the Horde might pose a threat to the elves, and consequently chose to lead her rangers to Southshore to join the Alliance of Lordaeron, despite not being ordered to do so.ToD 118
Alleria worked closely with Turalyon and Khadgar in the campaign to expel the orcs from Lordaeron. Upon learning that the Horde burned the borderlands of Quel'thalas, Alleria led the Alliance army to the defense of Silvermoon, briefly reuniting her with her sister Sylvanas and comrade Lor'Themar Theron. Though they were successful in repelling the Horde invasion, it came at a terrible cost: eighteen of her kin, including her younger brother, Lirath, were killed. To the horror of her friends, Alleria came to see the orcs as little more than vermin to be exterminated.BtDP #? Alleria hunted down the Bleeding Hollow Clan whom had so far escaped capture. When the orcs rallied behind Ner'zhul and the death knights, Alleria agreed to lead her rangers beyond the Dark Portal into Draenor to take to gain vengeance for Quel'Thalas and stop the Horde once and for all. Before she left, she had her necklace melted down into three pieces.BtDP 198 She kept the emerald for herself and sent the ruby to Vereesa and the sapphire to Sylvanas, using Verana, her lieutenant, as the emissary.
On Draenor, Alleria realized that there was more to the Alliance Expedition's struggle than her quest for vengeance. She rekindled her relationship with Turalyon, much to the relief of their friends.BtDP 247 Following the fall of Hellfire Citadel, Alleria sent most of her forces with Danath Trollbane, Thalressar and Kurdran Wildhammer to pursue Ner'zhul, but herself accompanied Khadgar and Turalyon to retrieve the Skull of Gul'dan from Deathwing. She later aided in defending Khadgar when he finally closed the last Dark Portal to Azeroth, after which Draenor itself was sundered in a fiery cataclysm, sacrificing her way home. After the damage that change Draenor into Outland had been done, Alleria, Turalyon, Khadgar and the rest all returned to the orc's homeworld. They set out to return to Honor Hold, which was still standing even after the chaos that had occurred on Draenor, shortly after all of them were through. However, although Khadgar, Danath Trollbane and a few others are present and interactable with in Outland, neither Alleria or Turaylon are anywhere to be found, leaving their current whereabouts a mystery. edit Personality
Alleria is a superb forest fighter who prefers solitude and travels with others only when forced to do so. She speaks infrequently and only in short sentences. Alleria travels in forests whenever possible and prefers to strike from hiding — especially when attacking orcs, who she believes have no honor and therefore can be killed in any way she sees fit. In battle, she uses her great speed and mobility to weave in and out of the fight, taking point blank shots with maximum efficiency. If forced into melee in a situation where she absolutely cannot fire her bow, she swings it as a quarterstaff. An Alliance stronghold in Outland bears her name, the Allerian Stronghold.
Alleria can not be found inside the stronghold, and, as Danath Trollbane tells her half-elven son Arator the Redeemer, her current status is unknown.
Horde players visiting Windrunner Spire in the Ghostlands can locate a necklace intended for her sister Sylvanas. The Dark Lady rages in fury at the messenger, but succumbs to her memories (see Lament of the Highborne). edit Quotes
