Scrabbable

Print E-mail
Scrabbable is a drinking game based on the popular board game Scrabble. Players assign drinks to each other using a point system.

Origin
Scrabbable originated in 2008 in a college dorm room at the University of California, Santa Barbara. The idea is attributed to three then-freshman students. According to the story, the idea arose during a game of Scrabble, when a player accidentally misspoke the name of the game.

Rules
The rules of Scrabbable are simple: it is essentially the same as Scrabble, with the addition of rules denoting when one must drink alcohol. The inventors of this game suggest the use of mixed drinks or beer, though the use of shots is concievable.

The Core Rules are as follows:

1.Every time a player accumulates ten points, he or she may assign a drink to one opponent.

2.When a player correctly uses a double word score square, all other players must take two drinks. The same is true for a triple word score square, only with three drinks.

3.When a player correctly uses a double letter score square, he or she may assign two drinks to one or more players. The same is true for a triple letter score square, only with three drinks.

4.If a player chooses to pass on his or her turn, he or she must take a drink.

Word Exceptions

If a brand or type of alcoholic beverage is played (ie, “beer” or “Smirnoff”) he or she can then choose to "pass" on a number of drinks equal to the number of letters in the word played.

Other common word exceptions:

If the word “chug” is played, the player chooses an opponent who must then chug the rest of his or her drink, that is, drink all of it without stopping for breath.

If the word “drink” is played, all players must drink half of what remains in each of their drinks.

If the word “drunk” is played, two things occur. First, the game ends immediately, and second, all players begin drinking large quantities of whatever alcoholic beverages are available. This is commonly known to Scrabbable players as "getting shitfaced."

Despite the usual restriction on proper nouns, any player's name can be used as a word. If a player's name is played, that player must take a number of drinks equal to the number of letters in his or her name.
