Sarah Van Aken is an American fashion designer and the creator of the SA VA fashion line, featured in the inaugural Philadelphia Fashion Week 2009.
Clothing line
After receiving a B.A. in Fine Arts from the University of Delaware, Van Aken had brief stints in fashion manufacturing and restaurant management.
In 2004, she launched the SA VA clothing line. Designs include a line of silk camisoles under the SA VA brand and custom tailored shirts and ties under the Van Aken custom line. Van Aken also designed restaurant uniforms for world famous restaurants including Gotham in New York City and the Borgata hotel and casino under the brand VAN AKEN Signature. In 2009, Van Aken launched her flagship SA VA store in Philadelphia, featuring a full line of women’s ready to wear clothing and accessories, and an accompanying website shortly thereafter. SA VA promotes fair trade, environmentally friendly practices, and local job development and has partnered with local volunteer organizations such as Career Wardrobe to provide volunteer opportunities to the company's staff and customers.
