List of Roman Catholic clergy charged with sex offenses is a compilation of events in which priests and others in leadership within the Roman Catholic Church have been formally accused by a government official of having committed a criminal sex offense. Those events in which Roman Catholic clergy were convicted of criminal sex offenses also are noted below.
Clergy abuse in African-American churches of all denominations is considered to be vastly underreported. According to David Clohessy, National Director of the Chicago-based Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, "It is much more widespread than any of us want to believe. All sexual abuse is underreported. We believe clergy sex abuse more than most and clergy sex abuse in the minority communities is even less reported."
The John Jay Report, commissioned by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, found accusations against 4,392 priests in the USA, equalling about 4% of all U.S. priests.
