K. Banerjee Center of Atmospheric & Ocean Studies (India Govt. official reference for K. Banerjee Center of Atmospheric & Ocean Studies and KBCAOS, Institute of Inter Disciplinary Studies (IIDS), University of Allahabad was established by the then Science & Technology and department of Ocean Development Minister of India Prof. Murli Manohar Joshi (former HOD of Department of Physics, University of Allahabad) and with little extra effort of NCAOR Goa Founder Director Prof. Prem Chand Pandey, CORALs, IIT Kharagpur

Dr. P. C. Pandey, Senior scientist SAC/ISRO, NASA Exceptional Scientific Achievement Medal holder in India) on 10th - Sep -2000 is one of the eminent science center of India which deals with the Atmospheric & Oceanic phenomena. The Centre have produced near about 7 Ph.D (D.Phil) student till date on his own resources. although still running on NCAOR, Goa fund and it is also supporting MN Saha centre with its facilites till date and it have produced many exports in software field, near about 12, who came here and taken exporties on high computing facilities of centre and spread over world and India in IBM, HP, Wipro, Sun Ultra, Mahindra, Capgemini, Infosys and other Multi-National software companies.

Field of work Carried out by Centre so far

Centre is in fist stage(starting from 9th September 2001) joined with the community of
Princeton Ocean Model (POM) model, Modular Ocean Model (MOM) MOM used in text model version (3&4) and MIT GCM- with an extra effort in Polar MM5 and Antarctic Sea-Ice - 163k -. The Non-linear dynamic prediction work is on the world level without any external coordination due to little extra effort of Prof. A.K. Mittal(Department of Physics) . Work on Chaotic system using Lorentz Attractor is in going to correlate with physical system.There is others are working on Tropopause height in troposphere using MST RADAR. The not less effort were going on on the neural Network by and rain fall. The Antarctic Circumpolar Current works and Indonesian Throughflow problem were done using global and coastal OCEAN MODELs. Thus this centre is involved in multidimensional works with still its adjunct faculties. In near future when permanent faculties will come then it will stand as a centre point of Atmospheric and Ocean Centre in North Central India.

KBCAOS is actively involved with various fields of Oceanic & Atmospheric science research, involving several Research Scholars & Scientists. The center is proud to join the different research expeditions & symposia in India & abroad including expeditions to Antarctica & several different international symposia in USA, ICTP Trieste - Italy, & many more countries. It is actively involved with National Center for Antarctic and Ocean Research (NCAOR), Goa; Space Application Centre (SAC/ ISRO); INCOIS-, Hyderabad; Centre for Atmospheric Sciences(CAS), IIT Delhi; Centre for Ocean, River, Atmosphere and Land Sciences(CORALs), IIT Kharagpur; Centre for Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences(CAOS), Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Banglore; Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune; National Institute of Oceanography(NIO), Goa; National centre for Mediaum Range Weather Forecaste(NCMRWF), Noida; Centre for Ocean, Land and Atmosphere(COLA), Maryland, USA.and POM user group Princeton University, Princeton, New Jersey USA. Centre's researcher team visited COLA, Mary Land, USA two times and also ICTP two times with his two ICTP Associates and Faculties till date.Dr. Avinash Chandra Pandey(Reader, Department of Physics), HOD Material Science (AU), who is Principal Investigator in most of the project in Centre have key role in such a activities of foreign visit to encurage the moral of the new researchers in the changed field from their basic science and computer field. The external person related with the centre, who hand is also in growing the centre, is product of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and world class Meteorologist Jagdish Shukla, now need not to say more about future of this centre if Dr. P.C. 	This centre was established by Founder Director NCAOR, Goa(Prof. Prem Chand Pandey now;Dr. P.C.Pandey)in his directorship with conference on Antarctic Awareness Program in which chief Guest was Dr. S.Z. Quazim the first Antarctic Expedition leader in 2001. The centre was on project mode and at that time some first batch staff has been joined recently. This was inaugurated by DOD and DST minister Professor Murli Manohar joshi as starting of advancement of University of Allahabad as opening Institute of Interdisciplinary Studies(IIDS) parallel to the faculty of Science. But it was Prof. Pandey one of the alumni from department of Physics, University of Allahabad who always help in the vision of Joshi ji which was end with success with permanent faculty position in all new department of under plan posts for IIDS. Thus Prof. Pandey proved him self as a true student of University of Allahabad by his all kind of effort for university advancement where he dosn't mind his honourable position is what in the scientific and academic society and the person whom I am talking for help in advancement of UoA what he will say, at last he succeeded in his vision along Prof. M M Joshi. Allahabad University should proud of on Professor Prem Chand Pandey(PCPandey). And further I want to add as NCAOR parent centre in past KBCAOS student have done well in modeling of atmospher and Ocean filed in able guidence of Prof. AK Mittal and Avinash Chandra Pandey and Prf. Jagdeesh Shukla, Director COLA, Maryland, USA and in coordinatorship of Prof. SL Srivastava, former HOD Physics. Now at present the KBCAOS is the excellent Centre of the Allahabad University which was stablished in memory of former HOD Physics, Kedareshwar Banerjee, who was shifted as centre Director to Cyclotron Centre Kolkata. 	The Chance should give to the first batch students who have sacrifices for the centre stability during days of starting(2001-2005) when the required facilities for computational work of ocean modelling was not set upped properly and there was no expertise in any of the adjuct faculty even write a paper or explain the result output especially for Ocean and atmospheric although they were able in case of space science(physics related) papers based on theory. The field was also new for student and project investigator as they were from physics background. The Instillation of model and set up of environment was another problem without any expert of model code and specific computer operating system. In this situation getting the PHD degree was difficulty on their own study, otherwise the calibre and struggling potential was much enough those students, I think if they get stable post in centre they will give certainly good result in the field and centre will get new identity and hight in related parer field and research work as well as in academic filed as they are doing well in different international level scientific laboratories. 	I think Dr. Alok profile is very attractive and he will sure understand the difficulties of electric Power and basic facilities which the first batch person Dr. A. P. Mishra, Dr. Shailendra Rai, Dr. Vivek Kumar Pandey and others have been faced and one of the anshu mishra's class mate from BHU Geophysics(M.Sc. Tech) having first position Dr. Abhishek Rai is within his Petrology and Mineralogy centre. Dr. Anshu Mishra have 2nd position with him and was JRF at IIT Delhi. I Think there should be no much difference in mental level of the Dr. Rai and Dr. Mishra but due to the work at unstablished centre who got initial infrastructure in 2004 started from 2001 is major reason behind number of International papers so the KBCAOS students in the work of these students the development of this centre is also comes with their papers in list of journals. My means the centre were no where if the left it within the 2001 september to January 2004, as they were only doing literature collection that time. 	With great pleasure I want to say by getting the status of KBCAOS in such a form that now the Image of Prof. Joshi(Hounorable Ex- minister HRD-DOD, Dr. S Z Quazim sahab, Prof. P C Pandey,Prof. J Shukla and also Prof. S L Srivastava has been save by the effort of KBCAOS research group started from first day 11-9-2001 and further and by Dr. A C Pandey who was curiously taken part in all development activties from the day of \"Antarctica Awareness Programm\" and science pradarsani activities involvment in which Antarctic related things and space related thins have been presented with help of centres studens in which I personally met with Suneet Dwivedi, Brajesh Nandan Jha, Prabhat and Vivek Pandey and Anshu Mishra. I think most of them were student of Dr. A C Pandey and Das ji. I don\'t know how many teachers have been participated but when ever name comes KBCAOS with university student talk then Dr. A C Pandey\'s name came to me. We were not so much please because Dr. Quzim has came here and was 1st Antarctic expedition leader but one new topic related study has been initiated by any Alumni of Allahabad university and which been succeeded, so I praise Dr. P C Pandey\'s effort and wide range coordination and responsibilty taken by A C pandey from university up to USA and altimately it shown the effect as a permanent facuty of university of Allahabad which is rare in universities, student used to to say it software department as well as K banerjee centre only at the place of Ocean Modeling department, and used to say exploration Geophysics and pure earth science have no use here. The man Alok Gupta, was saying student used toplay playing card when Mr. Gopal(generator operator was doing this on computer) with that time DOD Secretery Harsh K Gupta now what has happend him to participating in KBCAOS Activities. I found one article of students of KBCAOS on wiki but perhaps wiki person and some group is agains in science society who don\'t like Dr. P C Pandey\'s name in natable person list nor scientific person, some one have tried but wiki person are so wise the placed it in user profile, but I can not thing there is so much data which Dr. Pandey himself provide perhaps that is internet collection, and I saw many profile of general scientis is wondering on wikipedia article. I mean from begining of KBCAOS there were many person of science community and also from BHU and Lucknow gone against him as south loby was against it self and these two place person of Uttar Pradesh were demandin centre in his own univeritis as one of the Varanasi peson given comments, but UoA have much respect for BHU and Lucknow University student, here neither UoA student selected but BHU, DDU, Bundelkhand University, Lucknow University,Purvanchal University, Meerut University, Udaypur Rajastan University, Kanpur University, BIHAR, Culkatta University, Andhra University, and other two south Indian Universitis(Mr. P.Ganesh and +other guy) have been selected means KBCAOS never shown difference, now the following wiki profile is evidence the 1st D. Phil. has also gone to BHU student and whome Garg ji have given respect by giving post in proud of past alumni, i also wwish for his good future. Therefore BHU person should change their view and now come collectively and enrich the Polar Science study and project with new faculty and studend as NCAOR paid much than average caste for starting the centre keeping his future vision on initial projects as other centre in India only involved in tropical study as IITM Pune, IISc Bangalore and IIT Kharagpur and IIT Delhi, only KBCAOS is running and actively participating Polar and Antarctic region related ocean and sea-ice modeling. His seminal paper (Proc. R. Soc., 1933, 141, 188) on the direct method has received due mention in the Nobel Lecture of Jerome Karle in 1985. Apart from structural X-ray crystallography, Banerjeeâ€™s research pursuits covered a wide field of crystal physics. His research contributions in various fields like low-angle scattering, thermal diffuse scattering of X-rays from crystals, diffraction of X-rays by liquids, jute fibre and organic polymers, structures of coal and glass, determination of elastic constants of crystals by X-rays, theoretical modelling of vibration spectra of crystal lattice and some topics in crystal optics have received international recognition. Perhaps his most significant contribution for the advancement of science in India was the creation of active schools of research wherever he went, leaving behind a band of young, energetic research workers who in turn, became the torch-bearers of his scientific tradition. Banerjee received several honours. He was elected Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences (FASc) and National Academy of Science (FNASc). He was the sectional President for Physical Science Group at the Indian Science Congress in 1947, Vice-President of NASc during 1958â€“1960 and General President NASc in 1967. He was a member of the first National Commission for Cooperation with UNESCO during 1947â€“1951, a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Planning Commission during 1953â€“1956 and a member of the review committees and advisory boards of several national laboratories. In 1948, he was invited as a â€˜Guest of Honourâ€™ to the Inaugural Conference and General Assembly of the International Union of Crystallography. Apart from being a front-rank scientist, Banerjee possessed a rare and pleasing personality, kind and affectionate yet strong in his convictions. Therefore AU administration is not giving permission to start courses of Atmospheric and Ocean Science courses in combined Centre KBCAOS and MNSCOSS. Only KBCAOS have right to start the Atmospheric and Ocean Science Courses. There was a fault created by the First co-ordinator Prof. S L Srivastava who initiated to pass the Atmospheric and Ocean Science Course in Combined Centres, but present Allahabad University Administration is not forced to start course in combined Centre if they were made for two different disciplines. A broad vision about centers not permit to run the course in combined centres. 	I want to add in article correction that although KBCAOS has no. of enrollment 7 until 2008 in which only 5 or 6 not 7 have awarded the D. Phil by Allahabad University and other two either submitted or going to submit the thesis. This centre has credit to enroll all JRF and SRF of centre in it till date. KBCAOS also got the credit to have near about 100% infrastructure of combined facilities from its own project fund. MNSCOSS have no such credit. Only one student is enrolled in MNSCOSS and till date not submitted the thesis. Other project JRF and SRF (in No. 4) who have been awarded the D. Phil were working as member of MNSCOSS but enrolled in Department of Physics. Guest

	If Allahabad University established KBCAOS in 2000 for Atmospheric and Ocean Science study then it is obvious that the other centre in AU, MNSCOSS established in 2001 should not be of the same discipline. It means MNSCOSS will have different discipline i.e. Space Science. Therefore the step of passing the Atmospheric and Ocean Science Courses in combined centres was wrong in Prof. S L Srivastavaâ€™s Co-ordinatorship and now A U has taken good step to advising to run the Atmospheric and Ocean Science Course only in KBCAOS. For Space Science Course and permanent Faculty MNSCOSS people should wait and this will a good step to increase the potential of IIDS as well as AU. Before this Prof. S L. Srivastava and Prof. Hari Prakash, adjuct faculty in MNSCOSS got charge of Co-ordinator KBCAOS and Coordinator MNSCOSS as they were senior in both adjunct Faculty. MNSCOSS and KBCAOS are two different independent centre of IIDS as Coordinator of each centre have different Bank Account Number and letter Pad for joining the JRF/SRF and differnt pad of salary bill but place is common only. 	It is a simple example of good governance of Prof. A K Singh, VC, AU. Letter of Atmospheric and Ocean Science Faculty members to VC, through proper channel ( Through Co-ordinator KBCAOS- Prof. A. C. Pandey and Director IIDS- Prof. S. D. Dixit) has solved all problems of Vice-Chancellor as well as of Prof. Avinash Chand Pandey to make KBCAOS a full permanent Faculty member's centre of Allahabad University. Because AU admin as well as Director IIDS has been declared that there is no centre or department of Atmospheric and Ocean Science exist in IIDS as well as in AU other than KBCAOS. It will give no headache to Prof. A C Pandey to deal with the permanent faculty members of the KBCAOS and adjoint faculty members of KBCAOS & MNSCOSS. Guest

Prof. A C Pandey should feel honour to be a Co-ordinator KBCAOS as permanent Faculty and should paid respect to the people who is behind the KBCAOS and behind the advocacy of the permanent faculty post in such discipline (Atmospheric and Ocean Science) in Allahabad University. I hope the coordinator post will soon be made equivalent to the HOD by exsecutive council in tenure of Prof. Anil Singh as news comes. 	This centre was started with this story: DOD (MoES) Founder Secretary and 1st Antarctic Expedition Leader,Prof. S Z Quasim expressed his desire for a Atmospheric and Ocean Science in Allahabad University with the then HRD and DOD (MoES) minister Prof. Murali Manohar Joshi, then Prof. Joshi given responsibility to NCAOR Founder Director, Dr. P C Pandey for the Establishment of KBCAOS in memory of Prof. Kedareshwar Banerjee who was first man from AU to have worked for some time in India Meteorological Department, Former HOD Physics and Former Director Indian Institute of Cultivation of Science, Kolkata. NCAOR Goa fully supported the KBCAOS untill 2010 by project funding and ended responsibility of economic support to researcher activity due to full engagement of the Allahabad University administration and permanent faculty and thus completed its aim. Because of the two eminent personalities (Founder Secretary MoES and Founder Director NCAOR) of MoES were interested in the KBCAOS and also good research in Atmospheric and Ocean Science KBCAOS, IIDS got the permanent position of faculty in Atmospheric and Ocean in 2005-2006. I also want to add that there was no ISRO Chairman or Director of any ISROâ€™s centre level personality was interested in MNSCOSS and no upto level work in space science MNSCOSS could not got Space Science permanent faculty post but it may get post in Space Science if effort will continue by its potential adjunct faculty. Information in the comments are near about 100% correct and empower the KBCAOS with five faculty members of Atmospheric and Ocean Science and Allahabad University Administration also accepts it. AU administration says that if there is K. Banerjee Centre of Atmospheric and Ocean Studies (KBCAOS) already present then AU will never create any new centre/department of Atmospheric and Ocean Science and also UGC rule not permit it. Thus it is clear that the KBCAOS has five permanent faculty members in Atmospheric and Ocean Science. Guest

	I think great man never fight for position but for right things and here right is that in presence of KBCAOS, AU administration can not create the other Centre/Department of Atmospheric and Ocean Science because KBCAOS is in AU's Ordinance as Atmospheirc and Ocean Science centre therefore UGC will also not permit it. Only option is to remaining in KBCAOS for few years and in future by giving better performance request AU administration to convert it in Department of Atmospheric and Ocean Science with more faculty position and add KBCAOS-2000 in history of the Department of Atmospheric and Ocean Science.
