Overview
The term courtesy flush is a modern slang or office humor phrase used to describe an additional toilet flush performed to alleviate offensive smells while a person is defecating. The courtesy flush is generally used in multi-user environments such as office or public restrooms. Additionally, the courtesy flush is often used by guests when visiting the home of family or friends.
Application
A proper courtesy flush is generally performed soon after a person's defecation; this provides to flush out the waste and accompanying foul smells that make the restroom environment unpleasant for other users. Once the courtesy flush is performed, the user may then take as much time as needed to finish their restroom use, without causing an overpowering stench in the facilities.
When needed, a person may employ the use of multiple courtesy flushes to achieve the desired results.
