Chinese Bamboo Torture

Print E-mail
Chinese Bamboo Torture is an ancient form of torture which utilises the natural properties of bamboo.

The victim is taken outside and either strung between two posts or trees or strapped to a base composed of widely separated slats. The aim is to have the victim suspended horizontally with access to his or her torso from below.

This takes place directly above a patch of young bamboo plants, a plant which is very strong and grows rapidly reaching staggering heights.
Hence as the victim lay suspended in mid air the bamboo would begin to grow towards them.

The pain and discomfort at being held in such an unnatural position for several days was in itself a bad experience. However the torturers would also cut the tips of the stems to ensure a sharp point as they grew towards the victim. When the bamboo reached the victims skin the real pain began as the sharp points dug in.

If the victim refused to cooperate at this point (or if the torturer was particularly sadistic) they were left there as the bamboo continued to grow. Owing to the incredible strength of the bamboo stem and the sharpness of the tip, the plant would on most occasions pierce the skin and continue to grow through the abdomen (and any other flesh in its way) eventually causing death.

"uhm .. news flash .. Koreans are NOT the same as Chinese? They're like totally different? (okay they're both AZN gold farmers but w/e)"

Are you stupid or just stupid? We fought the Chinese in Korean War too. Ever hear of a thing called a "book?" You should try one; they're pretty neat. Furthermore, who said anything about this being done to Americans? The article says "ancient torture." Again...ever hear of a "book?"

This torture did not involve the suspension people above a budding bamboo. Bamboo is exceptionally hard and sharp when it is beneath the ground. This enables the shoots to push up through hard ground. The torture victim was staked out, ON THE GROUND, above bamboo shoots. That way, when the shoots reach the person, they maintain their underground hardness and sharpness and continue to push into the person as though they were still pushing through the ground.

For the love of God, man, read a book!

I just wanted to reiterate what a retarded jackass you are. There are still hundreds of Americans MIA who were taken prisoner by and/or turned over to the Chinese by Korea during the Korean War which, by the way, is still ongoing. There has just been a cease-fire in effect since July 27, 1953. Cease-fire talks still go on every day in P'anmunjOm to keep the cease-fire going.

Abraham Lincoln had you in mind when he made the following statement:
"'Tis better to be silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt. "

Ah Abdul, a fellow Arab, yet so ignorant. Obama's not going to stop anything. The President of the United States has far less power than most people think he does. The Senate and House are far too corrupt and obsessed with their own needs and that of their own parties to even accept the fact they would be wiser to just accept he's president. Oh well. All countries torture, it's just a matter of how and how good they are at keeping it secret ;)

Cheers to the American idiots who dragged the British into Afghanistan, Korea and Iraq. They can't fight their own wars and when we, the British, come and help they just friendly fire and kill more of their own side. Shoot first consequences later, well done dicks.

Americans are very ignorant , they have their finger in every pie were they can get oil from ....I would have loved to see them in a war against the south africans back in the 1970's and 80's those years south africans was rated one of the best forces in the world

Does anyone have any origin date for this, or when it was practiced?

@Agg:you are beyond ignorant. First, America is a country with over 300 million people, and any blanket statement concerning them is a joke.

Second, the idea that South Africa, at any point in the 20th century, would have stood greater than a snowballs chance in hell of defeating a country with (currently) 7 times its population, and more than 500 times its GDP, not to mention the massive advantages in land area, allies, and technology, is pissing in the wind.

And btw, when, and by whom was 'south africans was rated one of the best forces in the world'?

I have a feeling that if you looked at those "ratings" in the 1970's and 1980's you would have found the USA at the top by a very large margin.

I love my cousins over the pond in merry old England....however good Sir, I must point out that we, Americans, did bail your rear ends out when German planes darkened your skies.....So have a pause when you have these silly thoughts to be thankful that you're not speaking German and eating kraut on a nightly basis, because you'd be living in what was ONCE England.

It amuses me that American patriotism and morals are so high, it's much self-centered on your parts to think this only thing horrific, when it was invented long long time ago, not like they are used nowadays seeing how technology can make torture much easier

Note to First Comment
On your part, it is not said whether or not Americans did or did not spill any information, also "We Will Be Strong"? America is made up many ethnicity also it was not like every one person in America is physically fit, most are overweight if i am right.

Wow its starts as bamboo torture & ends up about how the Americans stoped us Brits from eating German sausage! Ha! What all you Americans forget is the reason why you came into the WW2. It was because Japan attacked Pearl Harbour to disable the Amercan Pacific Fleet to get at the oil in Indonisia & thus exposing the whole of the American Pacific coast to Japanese attack! We were trying to hold back the Japanese in Indo China etc on our own! as well as fighting the the Germans on our own! for nearly 3 years. So the good old USA joined us in fighting a World War ged it? We helped you fight the Japs but we dont go on & on & on about
how you would be eating noodle burgers if it wernt for us. Anyway you had our radar as 50%+ of the Worlds inventions come from us, at pearl harbour but refused to belive it.

Why is there a multicultural/multinational flaming war going on in the comments section for an article on bamboo torture?

I guess it proves that human beings can find just about anything as an excuse to fight, and this reason is just as meaningless as any other reason we've ever found.

And look, it's been going on here quietly in the comments section of some obscure internet article for over 2 years now!

Great job homo sapiens.

I have been tortured with bamboo for 6 1/2 years. I was rolling up a bamboo fence and it went into my hand. Everyday I am in so much pain. It has been a nightmare. Bamboo is bad stuff!
