Canyon of the Vaginas

Print E-mail
Canyon of the Vaginas is probably fictional place in the central Nevada described by novelist Tom Robbins in an article in Esquire in 1988 and later in his book Wild Ducks Flying Backward, published in 2005. It is near route 50 and approximately 100 miles (150km) from the city Tonopah. The Esquire article was published as travel article but author didn't confirm existence of this place and his description of this place location is uncertain.

This place should be narrow valley, situated in the ax of west and east, circa 600 feet long largely decorated with petroglyphs symbolising female vulva. Decoration of this place is made by Native Americans and the petroglyphs are dated from hundreds years ago to the 19th century.

It is a real place, my daughters and I just got back from there. It is just as he described and if you get a copy of the original article it is possible to find it. Like Mr. Robbins I feel that if you are unable or unwilling to make the effort to decipher his clues you probably don't deserve to find it. (It is nowhere near route 50 though)

It's a real place, easy access. But it is totally unprotected, unfenced etc. And, believe it or not, the "rough old dude" Petro-graffitto wearing the hat is there as well.
